Pre-Campaign
Over a thousand years ago, a great kingdom stood proudly on a continent on the planet Veyruhn. Its name has been lost to the winds of time, but its fall remains one of the greatest enigmas in recorded history.
Many scholars and treasure-seekers have tried to uncover the truth behind its collapse. Only one small group of four ever came close. What they discovered was chilling. An ancient arcane curse had been unleashed upon the royal bloodline. Nobles and monarchs alike perished, their deaths plunging the realm into chaos. As the kingdom unraveled, desperate factions rose to power, others fled, and the curse only grew stronger.
Even as centuries passed, the curse did not rest. Descendants of the royal line scattered across the world, but they were hunted down, one by one. Three hundred years after the fall, the very land itself fractured. The once-great continent split apart, breaking into isolated islands and smaller continents. Trade routes changed. Maps were redrawn. The memory of the kingdom faded, becoming little more than legend.
Two hundred years ago, the last known heir to the throne was said to have died. Some chased rumors in hopes of finding truth, but eventually the world accepted their death as fact. Today, the ruins of the ancient kingdom remain, cloaked in rot and silence. Whispers speak of powerful magic hidden within, but no one who has entered the ruins has ever returned.
Now, four adventurers find themselves drawn to the mining town of Craghold. Located in a burnt forest on one of the shattered continents, Craghold is a quiet place, yet it rests near something buried and long forgotten.
Each adventurer carries a secret, a goal, a past they do not yet understand. Whether led by curiosity, coincidence, or something greater, they stand at the edge of something ancient.
Will they come together and uncover the truth? Or will Craghold, and perhaps the world beyond, be left to fall into darkness?
Campaign Session 1
This story starts off like many others. A small group of 4 were riding together in the back of a horse and cart. It was silent for the first half of the trip. Nobody wanted to make small talk. Eventually, they all introduced themselves to each other. Zova the half-orc & her patron Ori, Tristan the Hadozee, Orgil the Firbolg, and finally Tyrango, the Abyssal Tiefling. While they were finishing the introduction, a group of goblins attacked, nearly killing Tristan with their short-witted intelligence.
After Tristan's near-death experience, the party decided to rest. As they were entering the town, Tristan must have offended some deity, as he was smacked across the face. After the guards allowed entry to the mining town of Craghold, the party headed to one of the local taverns. Inside the tavern, Zova noticed a suspicious hooded figure. She promptly wandered over to ask if he was alright before he ushered her away. Orgil seemed to dislike this mysterious person and promptly tried confronting him. After being sent away, he goes outside to put on a disguise. Orgil interrogates the mysterious figure, before attempting to snatch the box he was protecting.
This quickly prompted this mysterious person to rush out of the tavern, with Orgil hot on his tail. The rest of the party, unaware of Orgil's disguise, follow after some time. Eventually, Orgil lost this mysterious person and found no traces of where they could lead. Promptly returning to the tavern.
As the party haggled with the innkeeper, they received room 7. After a quick inspection of the room, it was noticed that a window didn't lock properly. To circumvent this, Tristan tied one of the strongest knots to keep the window shut.
During the night, Orgil woke up to a noise at the door to the tavern. Looking through the keyhole, he noticed a dark figure trying to open the door. Promptly opening the door, this figure vanished, leaving Orgil confused. After looking around the room, he noticed a mysterious coin had appeared on the table in the middle of the room.
The rest of the party woke up, and they investigated the coin. The coin was found to be indestructible after failed attempts to remove the gemstone in the middle of the coin. Zova witnessed an alternate reality where she spent her time with her parents. Tyrango saw a mysterious Pitch Black Humanoid Figure with Bright Red eyes in their peripheral vision.
After reporting to the innkeeper that somebody had attempted to break into the room, he gave them a discount. A guard delivered a message from the Head of the Guards, who wishes to speak with the party. The party was also made aware of some new ruins.
There was a blacksmith on the way to the ruins found in the mines, so they quickly headed to the blacksmith. After meeting Harlem, the Retired Dwarf Adventurer, the party attempted to explain the coin to him, but found out quickly that he wasn't hearing them. Orgil then stripped to have the coin fall out of his pockets, stunning the poor Dwarf, who had probably seen too many things.
After departing and nearly being fined for public indecency, the party headed to the mouth of the cave, preparing to explore these newly found ruins.
